Alison Woods, who will be making her New York stage debut, will play Anne Shirley in the new musical comedy Bend in the Road, an official selection of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's (NYMF) 2013 Next Link Project that will play five performances at PTC Performance Space beginning July 18.
Written by Benita Scheckel (book & lyrics) and Michael Upward (music & lyrics), performances will continue through July 28. Benjamin Endsley Klein directs.
The entire 17-member cast and performance schedule will be announced shortly.
Based on the classic novel "Anne of Green Gables," the musical, according to press notes, "centers on young Anne Shirley, an orphan who is mistakenly adopted by siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Although they had hoped for a boy to help with their Avonlea farm, Anne’s joyous, intelligent and vivacious spirit changes the lives of all those around her, including Matthew, Marilla and nosy town gossip Mrs. Rachel Lynde. Anne finds fast friendships at school, while her rivalry with handsome classmate Gilbert Blythe changes unexpectedly as they enter adulthood."
The musical is presented by the New York Musical Theatre Festival and 134 West - produced by Susan Lambert, co-produced by Sarahbeth Grossman.
PTC Performance Space is located at 555 West 42nd Street (between Tenth & Eleventh Ave.). For more information, visit www.BendInTheRoadMusical.com.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
