Allyn, Sokol, Tazmania and More Bite Into Cheese in NYC Reading June 21
21 Jun 2010
Cheese, a new comedy by Laurel Ollstein, gets an industry reading at The Players Theatre in Greenwich Village 7 PM June 21. Producer Pat Flicker Addiss is behind the presentation.
SuzAnne Barabas (The Housewives of Mannheim) directs the reading, to feature Theo Allyn, Brian Carter, Shauna Goodgold, Alex Krasse, Desiree Maumus, Marilyn Sokol, Corey Tazmania and Phoenix Vaughn.
The play, in which cheese sculptures play a part, is billed as "a dark comic farce about secrets and family — and how to survive them both."
Cheese was a 2009 finalist in the New Works of Merit Competition and will be published by Original Works Publishing. Ollstein co-wrote the book for the musical Opa!, which was a finalist in the TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series in 2007.
Producer Addiss is currently represented on Broadway with Promises, Promises and Off-Broadway with The 39 Steps, The Fantasticks and The Housewives of Mannheim. Her past credits include Spring Awakening, Passing Strange and Little Women.
Players Theater is at 115 MacDougal. To RSVP for the reading, email email@example.com.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
