"Mozart in the Jungle," starring three-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters, is one of four pilots that Amazon Studios has chosen for a series order, according to Variety.
Based on Blair Tindall's memoir, "Mozart" is billed as such: "Sex, drugs — and classical music — what happens behind the curtains at the symphony can be just as captivating as what happens on stage."
The dramedy was penned by Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman and Alex Timbers. Executive producer Paul Weitz also directed the pilot, which featured Peters as well as Gael Garcia Bernal, Saffron Burrows, Lola Kirke and Malcolm McDowell.
The other pilots selected include "Bosch" (starring Annie Wersching, Amy Price-Francis and Jamie Hector), "The After" (starring Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Jamie Kennedy, Sharon Lawrence, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adrian Pasdar and Louise Monot) and "Transparent" (starring Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
