The new musical was scuttled after rights to utilize Winehouse's music were pulled by a Danish copywright agency. Set to premiere Jan. 30, 2013, at the Danish Royal Theatre, the production also incorporated Winehouse's actual words, compiled from interviews, awards speeches, concerts and various newspaper stories, letters and the singer's own songs.
The singer's family was not involved in the production.
Amy, as it was billed, was said to explore "the enormous pressure a sensationalist public put on a young superstar when her problems began." Johanne Louise Schmidt was cast as Winehouse.
The singer, who earned acclaim for her 2007 album "Back to Black," battled drugs and alcohol during a very publicized downward spiral, which resulted in her death at the age of 26 in July 2011.
