O'Toole ("A Mighty Wind," Southern Comfort, Heresy) will helm the two-actor drama that features McCarthy (Side Show, Urinetown) as late activist lawyer William Kunstler and Welch (A Raisin in the Sun, Ruined) as a young law student who encounters him.
Kunstler will run April 27-May 11 at Pace University's Woodward Hall Theatre.
According to Hudson Stage, "Toward the end of a long and controversial career, the famous radical activist lawyer William Kunstler faces an audience of law students, including one young woman who refuses to succumb to his charm and is determined to confront him. As he defends his legacy, Kunstler covers the gamut of famous trials including the Attica prison rioters, the American Indian Movement at Wounded Knee and the Chicago 7, the Long Island Railroad shooting and the rape of the Central Park jogger."
The production will have set design by James Fenton, lighting design by Andrew Gmoser and costume design by Leslie Bernstein.
