Arielle Jacobs Set for In the Heights at Westchester Broadway Theatre
16 Jan 2013
Arielle Jacobs, who played Nina in the national tour and Broadway productions of In the Heights, will reprise her role in the Westchester Broadway Theatre staging this winter. The presentation of the Tony Award-winning musical will reflect the work of its original Tony-winning choreographer, Andy Blankenbuehler.
Penned by Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, with a libretto by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, In the Heights will be staged for WBT audiences by John Fanelli. Morgan Marcel will re-create Blankenbuehler's original choreography. Shelton Becton will serve as musical director.
Initial casting also includes FaTye as Benny. In the Heights will run Feb. 7-March 17. Fanelli's Standing Ovation Studios presents the Westchester run.
Additional casting will be announced shortly.
In the Heights earned Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Original Score, as well as Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
