Avenue Q Tony Nominee Will Host Inaugural Songwriters' Salon
04 Aug 2014
The Songwriters' Salon, a new cabaret series that will feature three to five musical theatre composers and lyricists on the first Thursday of each month, will kick off Aug. 7 at the Celebrity Club Cabaret at Times Square Arts Center.
Produced by Write Act Rep (John Lant, producing artistic director), the series is conceived and directed by Colton Pometta.
Tony Award nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q) is the special guest host of the first installment, which will begin at 7:30 PM and feature the music and lyrics of Alexander Sage Oyen, EllaRose Chary and Brandon James Gwinn, Creighton Irons, and Nadav Wiesel.
Performers include Jen Eden, Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), Melvin Brandon Logan, Julia Mattison (Godspell), Allison Jill Posner (Volleygirls), Lindsay Roginski (Chicago) and Monet Julia Sabel.
The Songwriters' Salon is described as "a casual and open playground for artists to meet and share new work."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
