Deadline.com reports that six-time Oscar nominee and three-time Tony winner Glenn Close will play Anna Anderson, the woman who claimed to be the Grand Russian Duchess Anastasia, in the film "Duchess."
The film, which is based on true events, covers the last days of Anna and her American husband Jack Manahan, who kidnapped Anna after the courts forcibly placed her in a retirement home. The two evaded authorities throughout rural Virginia.
"Duchess" marks a reunion with Close and "The Chumscrubber" director Arie Posin and producers Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn, who teamed with Close for "Albert Nobbs." The film was written by Posin and Nicholas Kazan.
Close, an Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award winner and six-time Academy Award acting nominee, has performed onstage in Sunset Boulevard and The Real Thing. Some of her film credits include "Fatal Attraction" and "Dangerous Liaisons," and her TV credits include "Damages" and "The Shield."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
