Baldwin and Cleale Will Vow I Do! I Do! A Bit Longer at Westport
17 Aug 2010
The Westport Country Playhouse production of I Do! I Do!, starring Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin and Drama Desk nominee Lewis Cleale, has added an additional three performances.
The Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt musical began performances Aug. 10 and was originally scheduled to end its run Aug. 28. Performances have now been added Sept. 2, 3 and 4 at 8 PM.
Susan H. Schulman (The Sound of Music, Sunset Boulevard, Little Women) directs the intimate musical that spans 50 years in the marriage of its central characters, Agnes and Michael.
Baldwin earned a Best Actress Tony Award nomination for her work in the Broadway revival of Finian's Rainbow. She starred in the world premiere of the Hal Prince-Susan Stroman musical Paradise Found at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London earlier this summer.
Michael Lichtefeld choreographs with musical direction by Joel Fram. The design team also includes Wilson Chin (scenic design), Devon Painter (costume design), Philip Rosenberg (lighting design) and Domonic Sack (sound design).
Jones and Schmidt are best known for their long-running Off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks. They also have created the musicals 110 in the Shade, Celebration, Philemon, Mirette, Collette Collage and Grover's Corners.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
