Bartlett Sher In Discussions to Stage My Fair Lady Broadway Revival
11 Mar 2013
Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher has been tapped to direct a Broadway revival of My Fair Lady, Grammy-winning producer Clive Davis confirmed to Showbiz411.
In January Davis stated that he planned to make his first foray into Broadway with a revival of the classic Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. He hopes that Academy Award winners Anne Hathaway ("Les Misérables") and Oscar winner Colin Firth ("The King's Speech") will star as Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins, respectively.
Davis recently told Showbiz411 that South Pacific(for which he won the Best Direction Tony), The Light in the Piazza and Golden Boy director Sher will definitely helm the Broadway revival.
Playbill inquired about Sher's participation in the project and was told that although the director has been discussing the project, it is too premature to confirm his participation at this time.
My Fair Lady opened on Broadway in March 1956 and starred Oscar winner Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle opposite Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins, who received a 1957 Tony Award for his performance. The work also took home Tony Awards for Conductor and Musical Director (Franz Allers), Costume Design (Cecil Beaton), Direction (Moss Hart), Scenic Design (Oliver Smith) and Best Musical.
