Brandon Monokian's Grimm Women Will Star Style Network Reality Star Briella Calafiore, Andrew Pace and More
30 Jan 2014
Brandon Monokian's Grimm Women will be presented by Manhattan Repertory Theatre Feb. 6-9 as part of the company's Winterfest Play Festival. Briella Calafiore from Style Network's "Jerseylicious" and "Glam Fairy" will star.
Helmed by playwright Monokian and assistant director Christine Bennett, Calafiore (My Big Gay Italian Wedding, The Vagina Monologues) will be joined by Daria Feneis, Andrew Pace, Gina Chedid and Gillian Holmes.
Here's how the play is billed: "A modern, gritty riff on the Brother's Grimm fairy tales, Grimm Women examines the classic tales and their characters, while exploring what happens after 'happily ever after.' These fairy-tales-gone-wild feature a pot smoking Little Red (Calafiore), a Rapunzel with the longest weave in the land, and a boy kissing frogs trying to find a prince."
Grimm Women debuted in December 2012 at the Kraine Theatre in NYC and was followed by an April-May 2013 run at the Adrienne Theater in Philadelphia. Calafiore has been with Grimm Women since its first reading in 2012.
Monokian is also the author of echo, narcissus, narcissus, echo, which recently had a reading, starring Christian Coulson ("Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"), produced by Your Name Here: A Queer Theatre Company.
Manhattan Repertory Theatre is located at 303 W. 42nd Street (at 8th Avenue) on the 6th floor. For ticket reservations, email firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information, visit ManhattanRep.com.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
