The project was first announced in 2010 with Allen and collaborator Greg Kurstin working on the score. The creative team was reportedly exploring whether to utilize an entirely original score by Allen and Kurstin, or to incorporate pre-existing songs similar to those used in the film soundtrack.
At the time, Bridget Jones Diary was slated for a debut during the 2011-12 season.
Working Title, the London-based film and theatre production company behind the original 2001 film version of "Bridget Jones's Diary" and its 2004 sequel, "Bridget Jones; The Edge of Reason," as well as the film and stage versions of Billy Elliot, are developing the musical.
The creative team behind Billy Elliot, including director Stephen Daldry and choreographer Peter Darling, helmed earlier workshops of the material that featured Sheridan Smith and Julian Ovenden.
Allen's albums include "Alright, Still," "It's Not Me, It's You" and "Sheezus."
