The 24th annual edition of Broadway Bares, entitled Broadway Bares: Rock Hard!, was presented June 22 at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. The evening that featured Alan Cumming, Bianca Del Rio and Constantine Maroulis among its special guests raised $1,386,105 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Over 5,000 people attended the performances which took place at 9:30 PM and midnight. The 24 editions of Broadway Bares have now raised more than $12.6 million for Broadway Cares.
Broadway Bares, according to BC/EFA, "combines the naughtiness of burlesque with the razzle-dazzle of Broadway and has been a smashing success since its inception in 1992." The first Broadway Bares featured seven dancers performing choreographed stripteases on a bar and raised more than $8,000. Through 23 editions, Broadway Bares has raised more than $11.3 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
The fundraiser was created by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, who also serves as executive producer. It is produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, led by producing director Michael Graziano. This year’s edition is directed by Nick Kenkel.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 BC/EFA has raised more than $250 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.
