Broadway Cast of Once Plays Sold-Out Concert at 54 Below Feb. 17
17 Feb 2013
The cast of the Tony Award-winning musical Once performs a special sold-out concert of original material and songs cut from the Broadway production Feb. 17 at 54 Below.
The 7 PM concert, according to 54 Below, allows audiences to "get up close and personal with the Broadway cast of Once... The cast consists of an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments. When they make their 54 Below debut this February, the company will present a mix of original music, cover songs and even some tunes cut from their show!"
The stage production opened on Broadway in March 2012, earning eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. It borrows the 2007 movie's songs by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová with a few new tunes.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
