Broadway Revivals of
Les Miserables and Raisin in the Sun Doing Big Business at the Box Office

Two Broadway revivals, one currently in previews and the other about to begin performances, are doing big business at the box office.
The New York Post reports that both the the 2014 Broadway return of
Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's and the revival of Les Misérables Lorraine Hansberry's , starring A Raisin in the Sun Denzel Washington, have racked up healthy advances at the box office.
, a reimagined revival featuring fresh scenic and narrative elements as well as new orchestrations, had taken in more than $10 million prior to its March 1 first preview. The Post says backers of the revival expect the box-office take to hit $12 million by opening night March 23. Les Miserables
The cast of the revival is headed by
Ramin Karimloo as Jean Valjean, Andy Mientus as Marius, Tony Award nominee Will Swenson as Javert, West End and Broadway actress Caissie Levy as Fantine, Tony Award winner Nikki M. James as Eponine, Kyle Scatliffe as Enjolras, Canadian actor Cliff Saunders as Thenardier and Tony Award nominee Keala Settle as Madame Thenardier.
The revival of
Raisin, which begins previews March 8 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, already has $11 million in the bank. During rehearsals, LaTanya Richardson Jackson replaced Tony Award-winning actress Diahann Carroll as Lena Younger.
The production will also feature Academy Award nominee
Sophie Okonedo as Ruth Younger, Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose as Beneatha Younger, Sean Patrick Thomas as Joseph Asagai, Jason Dirden as George Murchison, Tony Award nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson as Bobo, David Cromer as Karl Lindner and 13-year-old actor Bryce Clyde Jenkins as Travis Younger.
