24 Apr 2014
Sit in front of a television set long enough, and you'll probably see a familiar Broadway face or two — and not just on your regularly scheduled programs, but in the commercials, too. In fact, there have been so many commercials featuring stars of the Great White Way over the years that we've decided to spend a few weeks looking back at some of our favorites. In part two, we take a look at ads with Broadway's leading ladies that aired in the 1980s. Watch out for Hermione Gingold shaking cans of Coco Goya, Bernadette Peters in a sexy Kleenex commercial and even Betty Buckley promoting Geritol.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
