Broadway's Leading Ladies Go Commercial, Part 3: Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Michele, Liza Minnelli and More in Ads, 1990s-2014
01 May 2014
Sit in front of a television set long enough, and you'll probably see a familiar Broadway face or two — and not just on your regularly scheduled programs, but in the commercials, too. In fact, there have been so many commercials featuring stars of the Great White Way over the years that we've decided to spend a few weeks looking back at some of our favorites. In part three, we take a look at ads with Broadway's leading ladies that aired from the 1990s to 2014. Watch out for Megan Mullally dancing with tubs of margarine, Lea Michele singing about some of her "favorite things," and even Carol Channing recreating the Halftime Show from Super Bowl IV.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
