Barrymore Award winner Brooke Bloom will star in the title role of David Adjmi's Marie Antoinette, which will debut this September at the American Repertory Theater.

Rebecca Taichman directs what is billed as a "barbed and brassy comedy," which is scheduled to begin previews Sept. 1 towards a Sept. 7 opening night. Performances will continue through Sept. 29.

In addition to Bloom (Hamlet, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"), the cast will include Fred Arsenault (Born Yesterday) as Emperor Joseph of Austria, Hannah Cabell (Compulsion) as Yolande de Polignac, Andrew Cekala as the Dauphin, David Greenspan (The Patsy) as Sheep, Greg Keller (Wit) as Louis XVI, Vin Knight (Gatz) as the Royalist, Polly Lee as Therese de Lamballe, Cameron Scoggins as Axel Fersen, Jo Lambert and Teale Sperling as Marie's coterie and Brian Wiles as Guard.

Here's how A.R.T. bills the play: "Marie Antoinette provides a peek into the life of everyone's favorite representative of the 1% — the infamous Queen of France and cake enthusiast. Though she delights and inspires her subjects with her three-foot tall wigs and extravagant haute couture, times change and even the most fashionable queens go out of style."

Tony Award nominee Karole Armitage (Passing Strange, Hair) will choreograph the production, which will have set design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by Gabriel Berry, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, sound design by Matt Hubbs and puppet design by Matt Acheson.

Adjmi's plays also include 3C, Elective Affinities, Stunning, The Evildoers, Strange Attractors and Caligula.
