Unsung Musicals Company continues its 2014 developmental reading series at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center with a special presentation of the 1964 musical comedy I Had A Ball July 24 at 2:30 PM.
According to press notes, "With a book by Tony Award winner Jerome Chodorov and a score by Stan Freeman & Jack Lawrence, this vibrant, colorful confection follows the delightfully eccentric denizens of Coney Island and the feisty fortune-teller who singlehandedly sets off a series of raucous romantic entanglements."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
