Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello and Chuck Lorre Collaborating on New Musical
08 May 2013
Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer Burt Bacharach is reuniting with singer-songwriter Elvis Costello for a Broadway-aimed musical, according to the Associated Press.
The musical is based on the 1998 album "Painted from Memory," on which Bacharach and Costello collaborated. Emmy Award-nominated writer Chuck Lorre ("Mike & Molly," "Two and a Half Men," "The Big Bang Theory") approached the musicians about the project.
Lorre will pen the script, with new songs expected from Bacharach and Costello. The writers said that Broadway is the goal.
A timeline for the production was not revealed.
Bacharach (Promises, Promises) also recently collaborated with Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening book writer and lyricist Steven Sater on Some Lovers, which premiered in 2011 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
