Second Stage Theatre's world-premiere production of Lynn Nottage's By the Way, Meet Vera Stark has been extended for a second time, now Off-Broadway through June 12.
Directed by Jo Bonney, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark is a satiric look at the few opportunities afforded black performers in Hollywood's golden age. This is Nottage's first play to be produced in New York since she won the Pulitzer Prize for Ruined in 2009.
The play opened May 9. This latest extension adds two weeks to the run. By the Way features Stephanie J. Block, Tony Award-nominee Daniel Breaker, Tony Award-nominee David Garrison, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Kevin Isola, Tony Award nominee Sanaa Lathan, and Tony Award-winner Karen Olivo.
Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre is at 305 W. 43rd Street. For ticket information, call the Second Stage Box Office at (212) 246-4422 or visit the company's website, www.2ST.com.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
