Stage and screen actor Carla Gugino has been cast in a multi-episode arc opposite Jack Black and Tim Robbins on HBO's half-hour comedy series "The Brink," according to Deadline.com.
The series, from Jerry Weintraub, is directed by Jay Roach and penned by brothers Roberto and Kim Benabib.
"The Brink" is described as "an epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Robbins); Alex Coppins (Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Callahan (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot."
Gugino, who has been seen on Broadway in The Road to Mecca, Desire Under the Elms and After the Fall, will play Joanne Larson, the wife of Walter Hollander (Robbins).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
