Casting Announced for London Workshop of New Musical Revue of Songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe
08 Jul 2014
Anything Can Happen!, a new musical revue featuring songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, is to be workshopped at London's St. James Theatre, where it will be presented for one performance only July 25 at 1:30 PM.
A West End cast that comprises Annalene Beechey, Daniel Boys, James Gillan and Lauren Samuels has been assembled under the direction of Simon Greiff, who has also created the revue. Musical direction and arrangements are by Sarah Travis (Tony Award winner of the orchestrations of Sweeney Todd), leading a three-piece band.
The revue will feature song medleys from Stiles and Drewe's hit shows spanning 30 years of their writing partnership, including Just So, Honk!, Peter Pan, Betty Blue Eyes, Soho Cinders and Mary Poppins. According to press materials, the songs deal with "growing up, unrequited love, relationships, parenthood, hopes and dreaming big, and even a pig!"
There will also be stand-alone material, new work, and songs that "got away." The revue also chronicles the history of their professional partnership, told through narration and song, chronologically in reverse, so we finish with two fresh-faced 21 year olds meeting over the photocopier at Exeter University.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
