Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker kicks off Baltimore Centerstage's 2008-2009 Mainstage season Sept. 10.
Directed by Centerstage artistic director Irene Lewis, the production will officially open Sept. 17 in the Pearlstone Theater. Performances continue through Oct. 12.
Caitlin O'Connell stars in the title role as matchmaker Dolly Levi with Edward Gero as Horace Vandergelder. The cast also features Pamela Payton Wright and associate artist Laurence O'Dwyer.
The Matchmaker — which was the source material for Jerry Herman's Hello, Dolly! — is "a romantic comedy of mistaken identities, inappropriate hook-ups, and the constraints of class," according to press notes.
Tickets, priced $10-$60, are available by calling (410) 332-0033 or by visiting www.centerstage.org.
Set in the magical world of La Belle Epoque Paris, where fashion, glamour, and passion prevail, Lerner and Loewe's celebrated musical is a romantic comedy about one young woman's journey to find her true self... and her true love.
