04 Apr 2013
Two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera will be honored by Boston-area theatre critics with the 2013 Elliot Norton Lifetime Achievement Award May 13 at the Paramount Center.
Boston Theater Critics Association president Joyce Kulhawik said in a statement, "We can't wait to honor the dazzling Chita — everyone loves her drama and warmth! She's larger than life —and is especially inspiring to young artists who literally want to follow in her footsteps."
Nominations for the 2013 Elliot Norton Awards will be announced April 10. The awards are named in memory of the late Boston theatre critic.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
