16 May 2013
Tony-Award winning singer/actress Christine Ebersole performs Strings Attached with jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein and his trio for the annual Kathryn W. Stein Memorial Concert May 16 at 4 PM at the 92nd Street Y.
Ebersole and the trio perform classic standards from the 20s and 30s including "Jitterbug Waltz" by Fats Waller, "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye" by Cole Porter, "This Time the Dream's on Me" by Johnny Mercer and "Shall We Dance" by George Gershwin. Strings Attached was performed in a sold-out engagement at Birdland Jazz Club in November 2011.
Aaron Weinstein has been credited with the "rebirth of the hot jazz violin" and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Blue Note, Birdland, the Iridium, and at festivals in England, France, Switzerland, Iceland and Israel.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
