Three new plays are receiving full productions in "Summerworks 2000," Clubbed Thumb's fifth annual festival of new plays. The New York City based fest is taking place at the Ohio Theater in Soho, June 8-June 24.
In Rachel Sheinkin's The Doctor of Last Resort (June 15-17), the role belief plays in getting well is examined when a holistic psychiatrist is given his own tabloid talk show. Elizabeth Stevens directs.
Getting the longest run is Adam Bock's Medea Eats, which runs the length of the festival. In this spin on the classic Greek character, Medea is the wife of a tycoon. When he brings yet another new date to her dinner party, matters, as you might expect, go badly. Pam McKinnon directs.
Finally, in Ann Marie Healy's Beach (June 22-24), Shawn Fagan directs Flip, Gigi and their gang in an absurdist "Beach Blanket Bingo."
"Summerworks" will also feature several readings, including: Downwinders by Erin Courtney; Special by Dan Casto; Silverlake by Karl Gajdusek; and Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl. Tickets at $12. The Ohio Theater is located at 66 Wooster Street in Manhattan. For a full schedule and more information, call (212) 802-8007, or visit www.clubbedthumb.org.
