07 Jun 2012
Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis and Grammy nominee Deborah Cox, who will headline the Broadway-bound national tour of Jekyll & Hyde, will co-host the fourth annual National High School Musical Theater Awards.
Presented June 25 at 7:30 PM at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway, the honors, known as the "Jimmy Awards" (named for producer James M. Nederlander), welcome 60 young students from across the country, who earned top recognition in their local high school award ceremonies.
Two actors will compete to win the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by an Actor. The Jimmy recipients receive college scholarships for their achievements.
The panel of judges who will select the two winners includes director Scott Ellis (Roundabout Theatre Company); Kent Gash (New Studio on Broadway, NYU Tisch School of the Arts Department of Drama); Tony Award nominee Montego Glover (Memphis); Rachel Hoffman (Telsey + Company); Alecia Parker (NAMCO); Nick Scandalios (Nederlander Organization); and Bernard Telsey (Telsey + Company and MCC Theater).
Tickets, priced $59-$250, are available at Ticketmaster.com. Ticket purchases help to support The National High School Musical Theater Awards.
Deaf West’s production of SPRING AWAKENING floored the critics when it premiered in California, prompting the Los Angeles Times to write, "It's hard to enumerate all the ways in which Deaf West's SPRING AWAKENING is so very, very good." Now this unapologetically brilliant new production is coming to New York.
