Cooper, Breaker and McElroy Will Be Part of Tesori's American Songbook Concert
01 Mar 2010
Tony Award-winning actor Chuck Cooper and Tony nominee Daniel Breaker will join Caroline, or Change and Shrek composer Jeanine Tesori March 5 at the Allen Room.
Tesori's 8:30 PM concert, part of the American Songbook series, will highlight work from her Tony-nominated musicals Caroline, or Change; Shrek; and Thoroughly Modern Millie; as well as Off-Broadway's Violet.
In addition to Cooper, who appeared as the Bus in the original Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Caroline, and Breaker (Donkey in Broadway's Shrek), the evening will feature Assata Alston, Mikaela Cordasco, Derick K. Grant, David Greenspan, Marva Hicks, Jodi Katz, Ramona Keller, Mark Lotito, Michael McElroy, Greta Oglesby, Siena Rafter, Darcie Roberts, Mark Stewart, Valerie Wright and the Broadway Inspirational Voices. A fourteen-piece band will accompany the performers.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
