Rob Campbell , Rosemarie DeWitt, Daniel Eric Gold, Lee Pace, Ana Reeder and Mary Shultz make up the cast of Small Tragedy.
The play, making its New York debut at PH, concerns an out-of-town production of Oedipus Rex where the backstage relationships between the six cast members threaten to capsize the production. According to press materials, "reality begins to emulate Oedipus in startling ways."
Mary Sharp Cronson produces the event at the Guggenheim, Fifth Avenue at 89th Street. Admission is $18 or $15 for members. For more information, call (212) 423-3587 or visit www.worksandprocess.com.
Craig Lucas also penned Prelude to a Kiss and The Dying Gaul.
Mark Wing-Davey recently directed Henry V in Central Park and a unique dual staging of King Lear at PlayMakers Rep in North Carolina (audiences can seen the entire First Folio version at more than three hours or a trimmed version, on different nights).
Wing-Davey is perhaps still best known for his memorable work on Caryl Churchill's Mad Forest, in which both Campbell and Shultz appeared. Other credits include the Public Theater's 36 Views and The Skriker.
Small Tragedy will play the mainstage at PH's year-old $27 million complex at 416 W. 42nd Street. For information, call (212) 279-4200 or visit www.playwrightshorizons.org.
