17 Jun 2010
Actor Robert Cuccioli, who earned a Tony Award nomination for his work in the dual title roles of Frank Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde, will direct the gothic pop musical at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in September.
Cuccioli originated the roles of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde in the 1997 Broadway production of the musical that features book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Wildhorn. He also played the role in the pre-Broadway tour of the musical that originated at Houston's Alley Theatre.
Jekyll & Hyde will open Sept. 30 at WBT and run through Feb. 2, 2011. The production will begin a holiday hiatus Nov. 29-Dec. 27. Casting is currently underway.
Earlier this season Cuccioli appeared at WBT as Guido Contini in Maury Yeston's Nine. He reprised his performance in the title role of Yeston's Phantom at WBT in 2007.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
