09 Apr 2014
Casting has been announced for the one-night-only presentation of The Life + Death of Kenyon Phillips, Phillips' autobiographical rock opera, which will be seen May 2 at Joe's Pub.
The 9 PM concert will feature the talents of Daphne Rubin-Vega, Michael Musto, Chaske Spencer, David Cale, Brad Calcaterra, Marlon Taylor-Wiles, Vanessa Walters, Geoffrey Sobelle, T Bruin, Aurora Black, Alisha Judge, Joanna Pickering, Justin Sams and Cheryl Freeman.
The Life + Death of Kenyon Phillips, according to press notes, is a 90-minute rock opera that "uses an interactive rock-cabaret-variety show format to tell the story of this colorful New Yorker's life and eventual death. Kenyon says his inspiration for the project came from a desire 'to take the traditional one-man show idea of "here's my life story," and throw a grenade in it.'"
Joe’s Pub is located at 425 Lafayette St. Tickets are $20 each and available online at www.joespub.com, by visiting the Joe’s Pub box office or by calling (212) 967-7555.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
