David Ives' Venus in Fur Added to George Street Playhouse's 2012-13 Season
23 Aug 2012
The George Street Playhouse announced Aug. 23 that David Ives' critically acclaimed Venus in Fur will be part of its 2012-13 season.
The drama, which was seen on Broadway last season, will play the New Jersey venue April 23-May 18, 2013. Opening night is April 26.
Casting and creative team will be announced at a later time.
"The sexy hit of the New York theatre season, this electrifying and darkly seductive comedy will shock and surprise as it deftly blurs the lines between fantasy and reality," according to the George Street Playhouse. "With a crash of thunder and lightning, an arresting young actress, Vanda, arrives hours late at the end of a long and unfruitful audition day. An emotionally-charged game of cat and mouse unfolds as Vanda makes clear her determination to land the lead in Thomas’ new play, an adaptation of the classic erotic novel, 'Venus in Fur.'"
For ticket information call (732) 246-7717 or visit www.gsponline.org. George Street Playhouse is located at 9 Livingston Avenue.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
