A one-night concert performance of Jerry Herman's musical Mack & Mabel plays the Carpenter Performing Arts Center May 20 at 8 PM.

Starring Davis Gaines (The Phantom of the Opera) and Vicki Lewis (Chicago), with a guest appearance by David Burhnam (Wicked), the evening is directed by Larry Carpenter, with musical direction by John McDaniel.

"In Mack & Mabel, famed silent film director Mack Sennett reflects on his artistic legacy—his Bathing Beauties, the Keystone Cops, and of course, Mabel Normand, the waitress from Flatbush that he turned into a movie star," press notes state. "Set against the backdrop of the early days of cinema, this rarely seen musical gem depicts the bittersweet love story between two of film’s early icons."

Based on an idea by Leonard Spigelglass, with Michael Stewart's original book revised by Francine Pascal, Mack & Mabel features the songs "I Won't Send Roses," "Time Heals Everything" and "Tap Your Troubles Away."

This event benefits Musical Theatre West’s education and outreach programs.
