14 Oct 2012
Defying Gravity, a concert to benefit Art Start, the only volunteer organization providing arts workshops inside New York City homeless shelters, is presented Oct. 14 at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall.
The evening features eight at-risk NYC youths as well as Mark Nadler, Andre De Shields, Tovah Feldshuh, Eden Espinosa, Sandra Reaves-Phillips, Marta Sanders, Sean Young and Lauren Fox. Show time is 7 PM.
"A group of Art Start youth, who've never even set foot inside Carnegie Hall, will also perform — making this a momentous occasion for the NYC homeless community," according to press notes. "Mark Nadler, also an executive board member of Art Start, has been working with the teens for the past few weeks performing and choreographing their numbers."
Tickets, priced $50 and $100, are available by visiting CarnegieHall.org, by calling (212) 247-7800 or by going to the box office at 57th Street and Seventh Avenue.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
