The presentation is part of the Public Theater's Drama Club series, curated by Jeremy McCarter. It will take place at 7 PM at Joe's Pub.
The cast includes O'Hare ("American Horror Story", Take Me Out) as The Angel, with previously announced journalist Maddow as Actor 1 and Marvel (Top Girls, Picnic) as Laura Bush.
According to the Public, "In Kushner's provocative 2003 play, First Lady Laura Bush reads a passage from Dostoyevsky to Iraqi children who were killed in American air strikes. Afterwards, Kushner and the cast will discuss the morality of U.S. foreign policy and the extent to which we share responsibility for our leaders' actions."
The Public Forum was created to offer "theatre of ideas: conversations and performances with leading voices in politics, media, and the arts." In Drama Club, "authors, musicians, journalists, scholars, and actors will come together to give onstage readings of one-act plays that have some special resonance in our lives today. Each reading will conclude with a discussion of the hard questions that the play raises about our politics, our culture, and the way we live now."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
