Earlier this spring, the New York Times embraced Dicapo Opera's production of the Napa Valley-set romantic musical, which was presented without amplification. The return engagement will run through July 8 under the direction of Michael Capasso. Pacien Mazzagatti conducts a 29-piece orchestra.
Returning are Michael Corvino as Tony Esposito, with Molly Mustonen as Rosabella. Lauren Hoffmeier is Cleo, Brance Cornelius is Herman, Peter Kendall Clark is Joe, Lisa Chavez is Marie and Michael Hopewell is Doc.
In addition, Mo Rocca (Spelling Bee) will appear as one of the chefs in the "Abbondanza" scene on the June 14 opening night of Most Happy Fella.
The Most Happy Fella has choreography by Francine Harman, set design by John Farrell, costume design by Julie Wyma and lighting design by Sue Roth.
Tickets, priced $35-$100 (premium), are available by calling Smarttix at (212) 868-4444 or online at Dicapo.com. Performances take place at the Dicapo Opera Theatre, 184 East 76th Street, on the lower level of the St. Jean Baptiste Church.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
