25 Aug 2011
Disney's Academy Award-winning animated feature "Beauty and the Beast" will be presented on the big screen in 3D for the first time at Hollywood's El Capitan Theater in September.
Presented Sept. 2-15, audiences will have the chance to witness iconic numbers like "Be Our Guest" in 3D. Each screening will also feature a live appearance by "Belle." The new 3D version of "Beauty and the Beast" will also be released on Bluray on Oct. 4.
Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, "Beauty and the Beast" first debuted in theatres in 1991. It has a screenplay by Linda Woolverton and a score by Academy Award winning composer Alan Menken and late lyricist Howard Ashman. The two won Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Song (for the title number).
Among the notable voices in the film are Paige O'Hara (Belle), Robby Benson (Beast), Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts), Jerry Orbach (Lumiere), Richard White (Gaston) and Jo Anne Worley (Wardrobe).
The film was also adapted and expanded into a 1994 stage musical, which ran for 5,461 performances on Broadway.
