News, views and reviews about the multi-talented women of the musical theatre and the concert/cabaret stage.

Victoria Clark
Victoria Clark, the gifted singing actress who won her Tony Award for her beautifully moving performance in Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza, is currently illuminating another family drama, Sharr White’s The Snow Geese at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The Daniel Sullivan-directed production, which co-stars Mary-Louise Parker, Danny Burstein, Brian Cross, Christopher Innvar, Evan Jonigkeit and Jessica Love, casts Clark as Clarissa Hohmann, who tries to force her more romantic sister Elizabeth (Parker) to face the reality of the financially crumbling world in which they now live. Clark, whose performance is every bit as powerful as her numerous musical theatre outings, provides what may be the most memorable and touching moment of the play, a second-act scene with Elizabeth’s conflicted son Arnold (Cross) that shows the full beating heart that lies beneath Clarissa’s more severe exterior.

Diva Talk recently asked the multitalented Clark to choose five of her dream stage roles. The actress, who will return to her Tony-nominated role as Marie in the acclaimed Broadway debut of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella in January, said, "Most of my dream roles are in plays or musicals that haven't been written or composed yet — women who are strong and determined and blessedly flawed trying to find their way out of some tangle or other. I am eternally open to ideas about who these women might be and the circumstances that compel them to act. However...if I had to choose women who have already been created and fleshed out by actors before me, I will list a few, and while we're dreaming, I will go ahead and assemble the beginning of a team. Why not?"
