West will be joined by Miranda Raison and Laura Donnelly in the production, which is being directed by Ian Rickson, who also directed Jerusalem, Butterworth's last play at the Royal Court, that subsequently transferred to the West End and Broadway.
The new play is set in a remote cabin on the cliffs on a moonless night. Press materials quote the following line from the play: "At dawn I went back to the river, and I took off my clothes and dived in the freezing water. I searched and searched but it was gone. But when I surfaced, I was holding something. Something else."
West was last seen on the West End stage in the title role of Simon Gray's Butley last year, and subsequently played Iago in Othello at Sheffield Crucible Theatre, co-starring with fellow "The Wire" actor Clarke Peters, who appeared in the title role. Other theatre credits include The Seagull (Old Vic), As You Like It (West End), The Voysey Inheritance (National), Rock ‘n’ Roll (West End) and Life is a Dream (Donmar Warehouse). As well as starring in "The Wire," other screen credits include "The Awakening," "The Devil’s Whore," "Centurion" and "300."
Donnelly is currently in Philadelphia, Here I Come! at the Donmar Warehouse. Other credits include Judgment Day (Almeida), Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream (both at Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park).
