Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Will Break Ground on Historic Expansion
06 Nov 2013
The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center will break ground on an expansion of its Waterford, CT, campus Nov. 13, the largest in the Tony Award-winning company's 49-year history.
The expansion will include seven new dormitory cottages, providing living space for some 65 artists and faculty, as well as a new rehearsal hall and renovations to the Center's existing buildings, which will provide for additional production and rehearsal space.
The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center was founded in 1964 and is based in Waterford, CT. Programs at the Center include the Puppetry Conference, Playwrights Conference, Critics Institute, Music Theater Conference and the National Theater Institute. The Monte Cristo Cottage, O'Neill's childhood home, is also owned and operated by the group.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
