A partnership with Disney Theatrical Productions and Family Equality Council, Family Day OUT is sponsored by Amtrak and will bring together LGBT families, friends and allies who believe that all families are equal and deserve the same respect and protections under the law.
The event is part of Playbill's second annual Playbill Pride initiative, a month-long celebration of the theatre world's LGBT community, which will return this June. Read about the same-sex parents in the Broadway community who take pride in being a family.
Family Day OUT kicks off at 11 AM with a pre-matinee party and lunch at Times Square's B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, where families have a chance to meet cast members from Disney’s Broadway productions of Aladdin and The Lion King, participate in hands-on activities hosted by Disney Teaching Artists, and celebrate Family Equality Council — the nation's leading advocacy group committed to securing family equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer parents. Family Day OUT will continue with select seating at the 2 PM matinee performances of Aladdin and The Lion King. Tickets can be purchased at Playbill.com/FamilyDayOUT.
"As a proud adoptive parent, I know how vital stability and love is to the development of a child. No one should be denied the right to provide that love solely based on his or her sexual orientation," said Philip Birsh, President & CEO of Playbill. "I am very proud to be an ally in the fight for family equality and thrilled to host an event with my friends at Disney Theatrical Productions and Family Equality Council toward that end."
"We're thrilled to partner with Playbill and Philip Birsh on this celebration," added Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer Disney Theatrical Productions. "We at Disney Theatrical are proud to have stood for diversity and inclusion since we started producing on Broadway more than 20 years ago and this event is a perfect opportunity to support that."
"We are proud to partner with Playbill on this event," adds Gabriel Blau, Executive Director of Family Equality Council. "The LGBTQ community has long and deep ties with the Broadway world. We are thrilled both groups can unite this day to celebrate our children and support equality for every family."
"Amtrak is proud to be an official sponsor of Family Day OUT,” said Darlene Abubakar, Senior Director of National Advertising and Marketing Programs at Amtrak. "We look forward to sharing the benefits and unique experience rail travel provides for all families."
Tickets for Family Day OUT go on sale May 1. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Family Equality Council.
