The Top 13 finalists for the hit Fox singing competition "American Idol" were announced Feb. 20.
The finalists for the 13th season are Ben Briley, Caleb Johnson, Jessica Meuse, MK Nobilette, Emily Piriz, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts, Majesty Rose, Malaya Watson and Sam Woolf. After America’s votes were revealed, judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. chose C.J. Harris, Jena Irene and Kristen O’Connor as wild card contestants.
The competition will continue Feb. 26 at 8 PM ET when the Top 13 finalists perform songs that convey the message, “This is Me.” On Feb. 27, also at 8 PM ET, one finalist’s journey will end as America’s vote is revealed. "American Idol" Season 12 winner Candice Glover will perform a medley of “Cried” and “Same Kinda Man” from her debut album, and critically acclaimed singer Jake Bugg also will perform.
Former "American Idol" contestants who have taken to Broadway after their stint on "Idol" include Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple, After Midnight), Taylor Hicks (Grease), Clay Aiken (Spamalot), Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (Jekyll and Hyde, Rock of Ages), Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray, Hair), Frenchie Davis (Rent) and Jordin Sparks (In the Heights) as well as former "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (Chicago), among others.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
