Ghetto Klown's John Leguizamo Will Develop and Star in ABC Comedy Series
03 Feb 2012
Tony Award nominee John Leguizamo has signed a development deal with ABC and ABC Studios to star in and executive produce a single-camera comedy for the network, according to Deadline.com.
The comedy series will be inspired by Leguizamo's professional, personal and family life in New York City. Search is underway for a writer to pen the project.
Leguizamo will executive produce with his manager Jeff Golenberg as well as David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman.
Leguizamo is currently touring the country in his Drama Desk Award-winning performance of Ghetto Klown, which was seen on Broadway last year. The performer was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in Freak, and his one-man show Sexaholix was nominated in 2002 for Special Theatrical Event. He has also appeared on Broadway in American Buffalo.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
