Giuseppe Bausilio Will Be Broadway's Next Billy Elliot
23 May 2011
Giuseppe Bausilio, a 13-year-old actor who began in the Chicago company of Billy Elliot, will join the Tony Award-winning Broadway production in June.
Bausilio, who hails from Bern, Switzerland, was one of the original Billys in the Chicago production of the musical and later joined the national tour. He will be the 14th young actor to play the role in the Broadway production.
He will succeed current actor Jacob Clemente, who will play his final Broadway performance as Billy June 5 at 7:30 PM. An official start date for Bausilio has not been determined.
In addition to Clemente, the Broadway company includes Tade Biesinger, Joseph Harrington and Peter Mazurowski, who alternate in the title role.
The Broadway cast also features Tony nominee Emily Skinner (Mrs. Wilkinson), Tony Award-winner Gregory Jbara (Dad), Tony nominee Carole Shelley (Grandma), Will Chase (Tony), Neil McCaffrey and Cameron Clifford (Michael).
Based on the hit film, Billy Elliot opened on Broadway Nov. 13, 2008, at the Imperial Theatre. The musical earned ten 2009 Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. Billy Elliot has music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry.
Deaf West’s production of SPRING AWAKENING floored the critics when it premiered in California, prompting the Los Angeles Times to write, "It's hard to enumerate all the ways in which Deaf West's SPRING AWAKENING is so very, very good." Now this unapologetically brilliant new production is coming to New York.
