23 May 2013
Lindsay Mendez, who received Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk award nominations for her performance as Rose Fenny in the Off-Broadway musical Dogfight, is the next actress to fly into Broadway's Wicked. Playbill Video caught up with the star.
Mendez, who will begin performances May 28 as Broadway's newest Elphaba — opposite her Dogfight co-star Derek Klena, who will be making his Broadway debut as Fiyero — talked about preparing to "Defy Gravity" in the long-running musical Wicked, directed by Joe Mantello, who also staged Dogfight.
Mendez, who was last seen on Broadway in the revival of Godspell at Circle in the Square, was also seen in Everyday Rapture, Grease, Off-Broadway's Dogfight and The Marvelous Wonderettes as well as the Ryan Scott Oliver song cycle 35mm.

Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
