Grace Gummer Will Join Second Season of HBO's "The Newsroom"
14 Nov 2012
Grace Gummer, who was last seen on Broadway in The Columnist, will have a recurring role on the second season of Aaron Sorkin's HBO series "The Newsroom," according to Deadline.com.
In the upcoming season, which will tackle the 2012 Presidential campaign, Gummer — the daughter of Oscar winner Meryl Streep — will play Hallie Shea, a reporter covering the Mitt Romney campaign.
"The Newsroom," documenting the behind-the-scenes drama at a cable news program, features Tony nominee Jeff Daniels (God of Carnage), Tony Award winner John Gallagher, Jr. (Spring Awakening), Alison Pill (Lieutenant of Inishmore), Jane Fonda (33 Variations, There Was a Little Girl), Sam Waterston (Abe Lincoln in Illinois), Emily Mortimer (The Merchant of Venice, The Light), Thomas Sadoski (The House of Blue Leaves, Other Desert Cities), Josh Pence ("The Social Network"), Olivia Munn and Dev Patel, among others.
Gummer has also been seen on Broadway in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and guest-starred on NBC's "Smash."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
