The reading of the new musical, which is based on the Tim Burton film of the same name, also featured 2011 Tony nominee Laura Benanti.
The cast of the 2003 film "Big Fish" included Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney and Billy Crudup. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace, the film featured a screenplay by John August and concerned "a son [who] tries to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths he told about his life," according to the Internet Movie Database.
Jackman, who was seen on screen in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," earned a Tony Award for his work in the Broadway musical The Boy From Oz. He was last on Broadway in the two-person A Steady Rain. He is also known for his film roles in the "X-Men" trilogy, "Someone Like You," "Swordfish," "Kate and Leopold," "Van Helsing" and the recent "The Fountain" and "Happy Feet" (in voice). His stage credits also include Trevor Nunn's staging of Oklahoma! at Britian's National Theatre and award-winning work in productions of Sunset Boulevard and Beauty and the Beast in his homeland.
Benanti received her Tony Award for Gypsy and most recently appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Additional Broadway credits include In the Next Room, The Wedding Singer, Nine, Into the Woods, Swing! and The Sound of Music. Off-Broadway credits includes Why Torture Is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them; Gypsy; Wonderful Town; and Time and Again, among others.
