20th Century Fox, which is bringing the Tony-winning 1950 musical back to the big screen, has enlisted Strong to pen the new adaptation based on Damon Runyon's stories. Guys and Dolls was previously adapted for the screen in 1955, starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.
A director for the project has not been announced.
It was previously reported that Fox was hopeful that Channing Tatum ("Magic Mike," "The Vow") and Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("Looper," "The Dark Knight Rises") will star as Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson, respectively.
A highly successful 1992 Broadway revival starred Nathan Lane, Faith Prince, Peter Gallagher and Josie de Guzman. A 2009 Broadway revival with Oliver Platt, Lauren Graham, Craig Bierko and Kate Jennings Grant proved short-lived. A 2014 Carnegie Hall concert of the musical will feature Tony Award winner Nathan Lane, Tony nominee Patrick Wilson, Sierra Boggess and Megan Mullally.
