Husband-and-wife actors Terrence Mann and Charlotte d'Amboise, who currently star in the Tony-winning revival of Pippin, host Broadway's Best in Drag June 9 at the Abrons Art Center.
At the 6:30 PM event, Mann and d'Amboise join director and producer Robert La Fosse for a "pageant-style drag queen extravaganza, bringing together ten fabulous performers from Broadway and beyond. Contestants will sashay through a three-round competition of evening wear, talent and interview, with audience members voting for their favorite. [A] one-of-a-kind tiara [has been] designed by Patricia Underwood exclusively for Broadway's Best in Drag."
The evening includes an open bar and raffle prizes.
Confirmed contestants include Crystal Demure, Douglas McGeoch as Didi Panache, Frankie James Grande (Pageant), Marti Gould Cummings, Patrick Rinn (Chicago), Sam Given (Zombies) as Millie Grams, Leo Gugu and Sasha Velour.
Broadway's Best in Drag benefits ASCNYC and people living with HIV and other chronic illnesses by "providing peer education services, meals, clothes, transportation, housing placement assistance, and connection to healthcare."
The Abrons Art Center is located at 466 Grand Street. For more information and tickets, call (212) 645-0875, ext. 303 or visit ASCNYC.org or BestInDrag.org.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
